If you haven’t heard the news already, The Occasional Traveller has the honour of being one of the top 10 finalists in the omy.sg Singapore Blog Awards 2013 – Best Travel Blog category! While it’s not the first time participating in the awards (TOTshop was nominated for Best Blogshop last year though I didn’t win), this marks the first time that The Occasional Traveller has actually been considered for any sort of travel blog award out there… whee!
What’s the big deal you ask? The SBA is an annual event that recognizes the top bloggers in Singapore for various categories and is one of the more prominent local blog awards, which hopefully leads to more traffic and possible blogging gigs for me in future. There’s a trophy and other swag for the winners in each category, but more importantly each category’s winner gets a fully sponsored blog trip to Northern Territories, Australia! A free trip for a travel buff, how awesome is that!
How this works is that while 70% will be up to me and my blog to impress the judges, 30% of the final score comes from voting, so I’ll need the help of you, my dear readers, to help me win this because I’m up against some pretty popular blogs! Head on over to the SBA website for more – you’ll have to sign up for an omy account to vote, and you can vote once for each category every day all the way till 23 June.
I’m honoured that all the work in my blog is being recognized! In case you’re not already a convert, you should vote for The Occasional Traveller because it exists to inspire you, yes you sneaking a peek at this in the workplace or lecture, and remind you to travel – it is possible for the everyday man with a full-time job to indulge in a love for travel!
You’ll see another post coming up soon as a part of this blog award, where I have to think about how the 60’s (that’s this year’s theme) inspired me… man I wasn’t even born yet, gotta put on my thinking cap for that! Update: Here’s my 60’s post!
Head on over to the Singapore Blog Awards website here to find out more, there are lots of other cateogories and blogs that you can give your vote too as well, and stay updated via #omySBA2013.
