Wow it’s been a whirlwind of travelling these past two months, with Dublin, Prague and the Maldives! But in between all that travelling, I thought I’d highlight some of my recent features that I’m pretty stoked about. Once again thanks everyone for your support of The Occasional Traveller, I definitely wouldn’t be anywhere without y’all!
Men’s Folio
Singapore’s top Singapore travel blogs pick
If you pick up the November 2013 issue of Men’s Folio Singapore – it’s the travel issue (quite a good read!) and they picked out six Singapore travel bloggers to be featured and I did a little interview with them.
If you’re intrigued by some of the travel experiences I mentioned in the article, you can read more about them right here – the one about being mistaken for a prostitute in Dubai; the really pukey ferry ride in Taitung; and that time I nearly got robbed with birdshit in Barcelona.
Thanks to Kenny Ong for the feature, and also for the wonderful pix: Unholies J for catching me chilling in the Liwa desert and my Osaka travel buddy Y for the Fushimi Inari shot. Also, shout out to the other 5 bloggers! Check out their blogs here:
- The Long and Winding Road: Jerome Lim
- Wild Junket: Nellie Huang
- Travelerfolio: Eunice Khong
- Roving Light: Wu Swee Ong
- AspirantSG: See Wee Heng
Travel+Leisure
A #TLpick for Travel+Leisure’s Instagram
One of my Instagram pix from Dublin was picked up by @travelandleisure on their Instagram as a #TLpick!
My own Instagram isn’t very prolific, it’s something I’ve only started doing more regularly in recent months, so seeing any photo of mine get over 1900 likes is pretty insane – I’m already ecstatic with 30 likes on a photo, so this is a little mindblowing for me!
I do love this picture though – I came across it quite by chance. It was TBEX day 2 and I had skipped out on the Open Marketplace session and took a quick walk around Dublin. On the way back to the DoubleTree Hilton, I decided to take a different road instead of my usual path and ended up on Lower Pembroke Street, on the west side of Fitzwilliam Square park and found this really pretty building.
I love creepers on buildings, and the colours of these were really beautiful, this gradient blend of red and green. A comment on my Instagram best sums it up: “it’s like Autumn creeping across the wall” – see the original picture here.
Hostelbookers
Getting the chops on Hostelbookers
Hostelbookers picked up my self-defence class with SWEAT! gym as one of their top blog posts for October.
This was a really interesting session which you can read more about here, something travellers can consider to boost their confidence about travelling, whether they’re solo or not. Do click through and check out SWEAT gym‘s offerings – not only do they have great classes, they are a sponsor of The Occasional Traveller, so do support them!

Hi Jac, Thanks for the shout-out. At least you got the blog/website address right! Not only did the editors listed my URL and Eunice's URL wrong, they completely mixed up my interview content with AspirantSG!

Thanks Murissa! You're doing really well yourself too :)
The prostitute one is pretty funny on hindsight, but apparently it's something quite rampant in their nightlife scene there!
