Let’s Rendezvous at Scarborough Beach

On this last trip to Western Australia, I knew that I wanted to spend most of my time in Margaret River, but I was arriving in Perth in the evening and didn’t want to make that 3+hr drive down to our Margaret River accommodation in the dark. Knowing that I would be staying on a winery then, I decided to see if I could work in a little time at the beach and reached out to the folk of Rendezvous Grand Hotel along Scarborough Beach, who kindly hosted me for a night!

I spent just one night in the hotel and had to check out by noon so I had enough time to make my way down to Margaret River, but I enjoyed my short stay there!

LOCATION

Perth Scarborough Rendezvous Building

As the only tall building along that stretch, it commands pretty amazing views

Rendezvous Scarborough has a great location right on the promenade of the famous Scarborough Beach. It’s a tall white building, the only tall building in that area, so the views it commands are quite spectacular. Scarborough Beach is also quite accessible by public transport, though it is about 30 mins from the airport by car.

Perth Scarborough Rendezvous Balcony Panorama

Here’s a panorama shot I took from the balcony of my room, click on picture for larger view

THE ROOM

Perth Scarborough Rendezvous room

The Club Room and the ensuite bathroom. There’s a couch area as well as a balcony

We were put in Room 2304, on the club room level. The room was fairly spacious with a comfortable King sized bed and a couch area, as well as a TV and work desk. What’s awesome is that it comes with its own balcony, and we were lucky to get one that had a nice view of the beach, so you can enjoy the spectacular views of the coastline from the privacy of your own room.

Perth Scarborough Rendezvous Reflection

Gratuitous reflection selfie on the balcony!

I wish that there were deck chairs on the balcony though, I would have liked to sit outside and enjoy the view. Looking at the other balconies from my room, one or two chairs but I’m not sure if they were just dragged out from the room rather than dedicated balcony furniture.

Perth Scarborough Rendezvous Beach Night

Here’s the view at night. The day view is much prettier

Perth Margaret River Scarborough Beach Top View

Agreed?

The room and the hotel at large had some similarities to the Singapore Rendezvous hotel, with a little touch of more personal art on the walls which I liked better. The toilet was stocked with FCUK toiletries as well. One thing I found a bit odd was the white privacy screen used to cover the glass screen that separates the shower from the rest of the room – it’s not particularly opaque when the lights are switched on, so might be a bit awkward for non-couples because you can kinda see through it.

Perth Scarborough Rendezvous Club Lounge

Club Lounge on 25th floor as seen from the viewing deck

For Club rooms, we had complimentary parking in the self-park basement carpark below, and access to the club lounge on the highest level 25 for breakfast and sunset cocktails. Sadly we missed the free cocktails in the evening, but we had breakfast up there the next morning, which while a smaller spread, was sufficient and a nice quiet affair.

Perth Scarborough Rendezvous Club Breakfast

Breakfast! Hearty scrambled eggs, mushrooms and sausages with an orange juice :)

THE HOTEL

The hotel has 336 rooms in total. And like the Rendezvous Hotel Singapore, they also have a Straits Cafe on the first level where breakfast is served. It has a Lobby Bar

Perth Scarborough Rendezvous Pool Top

Perth Scarborough Rendezvous Pool

Close up of the pool surrounded by a pretty rock facade. Pity we didn’t have time to swim, the pool is apparently heated!

The swimming pool is located on level 10 and has a pretty rock facade and deck chairs to chill out in. You can see the beach from there though it’s partially obscured by the large plexiglass panels. Can get windy though, despite the panels!

Perth Scarborough Rendezvous Viewing Platform

The viewing platform on Level 24

For a real bird’s eye view, there is an observation deck on level 24 where one can get a 360 view of the coastline if you don’t mind being a little obscured by the plexiglass panels.

AROUND THE HOTEL

Perth Scarborough Rendezvous Beach Sign

Beautiful morning at Scarborough Beach, despite the many warnings of things to look out for

Scarborough Beach is the main attraction in this area, and the beach is practically on your doorstep, barely 100m from the hotel doors. This beach can be more crowded as it has public transport access, and right from early morning, you can see the surfers dash into the cold waters to catch some waves. The beach stretches up and down the entire coast, becoming Trigg beach in the north and Floreat beach in the south, and one could walk the paths along the beaches for some really good exercise.

Perth Scarborough Rendezvous Beach Surf Birds

Seagulls trying to withstand the strong winds. Yes, that one is balanced on one leg

Perth Scarborough Rendezvous Beach Tracks

Looking down the beach tracks

The hotel seems to have a shopping arcade of sorts attached to it, and some amenities around the area as well, a supermarket next door, as well as some food like Subway

All in all, a nice stay for anyone who wants a nice stay with a great view with really convenient access to the beach.

THE COST

Perth Scarborough Rendezvous

Is it considered an expensive stay? The Deluxe Rooms are about average when it comes to rooms in Perth

The Rendezvous Club Room costs anywhere from A$290 – A$340 per night based on the rates on the website, though you can get the cheapest deluxe rooms from A$199 on average, though I saw it going as low as A$145.
