Weekend Wanderlusting – Bali

In Indonesia by Jaclynn Seah0 Comments

You’ve seen the Dayang dive posts, and some Brisbane ones too, but for the upcoming long Good Friday weekend and my birthday (whee!)

Bali, Indonesia!

Oddly enough, I’ve never been to Bali. I haven’t actually visited a number of these typical Asian beach destinations like Phuket and Boracay because most times I’m at a beach, it’s to dive…

my friends Y (my Ohayo Osaka trip companion), A and K, whom I had previously travelled to Bangkok with for that quick R&R trip. Y & A celebrate their milestone March birthdays with me while K is just coming along for the ride (more on her on talking to travellers in time to come!).

Enjoy sun sand and sea! We’ve gotten lots of recommendations from friends on places to go, and since A did the villa bookings and I did the plane bookings, we’re leaving it to the very busy Ms Y to plan. She tends to work best on the fly though, so we’ll see what happens.

Some things we’re thinking of doing:

  • Visit the original Kudeta or Potato Head beach clubs
  • Have cheap and good seafood in Jimbaran
  • Get a massage or spa treatment?
  • Check out Ubud

Many of the budget airlines fly there, but we’re going via Jetstar – it cost around $260 all in, including the mandatory $5/seat/sector charge and $49/baggage/sector charge at the time that we bought in December last year! It’s a pretty short flight, 3 hours only from Terminal 1 to Bali’s Ngurah Rai airport.

We decided that we wanted to stay downtown and convenient, so we picked out a place in Seminyak. After much dithering around and looking, we ended up going with Mutiara Bali Boutique Resort Villas and Spa. Mostly we picked this for the location (near the beach and town area)

We booked the one bedroom deluxe villa for 3 nights with an extra bed for around S$870. That’s about S$290 per person and about $90+ per night per pax. The villa are built for two bedrooms actually, but because only three of us are staying there, we decided to just get the one bedroom, which entails them locking the upper level so we can’t access it. Whether that is creepy or not remains to be seen.

If you’re wondering why four of us are going there and only three of us are staying in the villa, that’s because Ms K has decided she won’t stand for a villa and has put herself up at the Intercontinental in Jimbaran instead.

It’s the first time I’m celebrating my birthday overseas, and it’s the last of my 20s years (sob!) so I’m quite excited! It will also cap off my March Madness travelling, phew!
