On my last Brisbane jaunt for Unholies P’s wedding, we stayed in Brisbane City at the Meriton Serviced Apartments on Adelaide Street. It’s the highest building in the city and we had a pretty great room all the way up on the 2nd highest floor, #73! Here’s a little more about our stay.

Getting there
Adelaide Street is right next to the Brisbane river, and also walkable distance to Story Bridge. There’s a pretty good restaurant and bar called Ecco just across the street, and there’s a bar at the Marriott just a little way down.
The Europcar Car Rental place is also very nearby, and the ferry is about 10mins walk, with the train station a bit further away, but in terms of amenities like supermarkets and shopping, you’ll have to walk some distance down. Same goes for South Bank and West End, which you could technically walk to but it’s quite a distance! You’re better off taking a cab or the ferry…

The Apartment
The apartments are located in Brisbane city’s tallest building – the 234m tall Soleil Building, with 225 apartments of various sizes. We took the 2-bedroom sky view apartment and had a room on the 73rd floor, 2nd highest floor in the building! Needless to say, the views were spectacular. The rooms were comfortable and we had a good amount of space for the 4 of us.

There was a small kitchen with oven, fridge, microwave and an island for eating at. You need to open the windows for ventilation if you do serious cooking though. There’s a small study on the left hand side
Facilities
There were 2 swipe card keys for the lift, which while smart, is extremely slow – give yourself an additional 10 minutes just to wait for the lift!
There is a carpark which costs $35/night and goes from Basement 4 (or -4 as they call it) all the way down to -10. You need a separate garage swipe card to open that door. There’s a free phone line at reception to call a cab, whether it’s a small one or the big 10-seater people mover sort.
As a serviced apartment, that meant they would make the room up everyday and wash the dishes, though they’d leave out any food on places. Towels had to be on the bathroom floor to be changed as well.
There is an indoor pool, spa and gym as well which I didn’t have time to check out.
More importantly, free wifi in the lobby and the rooms – ask the reception for the password, though it can be pretty slow at times…
Price
We split the 640AUD bill among 4 of us, so I paid $160AUD for 3 nights in the 2-bedroom apartment, which works out to around $53 per night. Apparently this was a promotional price that they were having. Sign up for their mailing list, those deals are pretty good.
All in all, it was a pretty good stay and generally good service all around, I would recommend this place if you had a group staying here especially – most of the smaller rooms are located on the lower floors which doesn’t have such a great view, but the 2 and 3 bedroom apartments are high up on the 60-70+ floors, which makes for a really, really nice view!
