Art overload at the Singapore Biennale 2013 – Part One

In Art, Singapore, Singapore Shorts by Jaclynn Seah1 Comment

Well as you guys know, I do work in the arts in my day job, and if you’re following my instagram @jac_theocctrav, you’ll know that I headed down with the colleagues to check out the Singapore Biennale 2013 – this contemporary arts festival last took place in 2011 with the infamous Merlion hotel, and it’s back again this year for the 2013 edition. With 27 curators and over 80 artists mostly hailing from South East Asia responding to the theme “If The World Changed”, the works are spread out across several venues – I only managed to check out those …

A Whirlwind Weekend up to Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort

In FAM Trip, Indonesia by Jaclynn Seah0 Comments

The last time I was in Bali for my Birthday this year, I wasn’t that impressed with Kuta. Compared to the more upscale Seminyak and posh seclusion of Jimbaran, Kuta seemed overly crowded with people, a constant flurry of activity and full of touristy stuff in warm congested lanes – even the famous Kuta Beach didn’t appeal with its human traffic and persistent flow of touts trying to get you to buy stuff.   I was invited up by the kind folk of the Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort, a property opened in late 2012, which is located next to the …

Weekend Wanderlusting – Bali (Again)!

In FAM Trip, Indonesia by Jaclynn Seah0 Comments

It’s been a crazy month at work, burning weekends and free time getting work sorted out. Anyone who’s had to help run an event will know that 99% of your time goes into making it turn out right and the remaining 1% of free time is for a quick nap before it’s time to go again! So while I’ve got a whole holiday line up planned for October, I really needed a short break right now to recharge. And maybe I’ve accumulated enough good karma from working hard, but I was very happy to see this invitation to my first …

Kuta Beach Rambling in Bali

In Indonesia by Jaclynn Seah1 Comment

And we conclude the Bali chronicles with a day in Kuta! After checking out Seminyak and Jimbaran in the previous days, we spent our last day in the famous Kuta area where all the tourists hang out. The traffic getting to Kuta was pretty insane, it’s a long narrow stretch of road fairly close to Seminyak, but you spend most of your time just waiting in the jam. Thank god for air-conditioning… Quite honestly, we didn’t do very much here or see anything particularly interesting here, mostly spent our time rambling around the place until we got too hot and …

Celebrating My 29th in Jimbaran

In Indonesia by Jaclynn Seah2 Comments

And… more Bali stories! Especially for Ms A who’s having a bit of withdrawal =P On the day of my actual birthday, where I failed spectacularly to stay up the night before till 12am to welcome it in (I fell asleep at 10am, boo) after a long first day in Seminyak, we headed over to Jimbaran to check it out. Jimbaran is about 40mins by taxi (70,000 IDR) away from Seminyak – we took a cab to Jimbaran Corner, which is a pretty fancy shopping centre by Bali standards. It’s air-conditioned with a pretty swanky L’occitane spa and other restaurants …

Sun, Sand and Sea in Seminyak

In Indonesia by Jaclynn Seah2 Comments

Our villa Mutiara Bali was located in the Seminyak area, and that’s where we ended up spending most of our time. Walking around the area, it’s basically built for tourists, all you see in the area are villa properties, spas, restaurants and boutiques. The main road where most of the action takes place is along Jalan Ayu Kaya, where most of the restaurants and boutiques are located. Naturally the first thing we do once we settled into our villa was to go seek out some local food. Bypassing all the higher class looking establishments, we opt for the nondescript Warung …
