I’ve always loved Sophie Blackall’s Missed Connections blog, where she had these quirky illustrations depicting posts left on missed connections websites.
She’s since started a new series – Drawn From My Father’s Adventures, which as its name implies, are inspired by the weird and wonderful anecdotes her father once told her of his travels back in the day.
From a tale of getting a visa from a closed off China, to an odd encounter with a blue raincoated man in the Middle East, the anecdotes are unusual and the pictures queer and wonderful. It’s like a glimpse into what Sophie’s creative mind processes, especially when she hears things like “Naked Sardine Wrestling Women”. (that image just makes you stare at it)
